It was a hot summer day in early September. Kathy Smith was doing her postal route and was standing by a group of mailboxes. A woman from the neighborhood pulled up beside Kathy and got out to speak with her. Kathy says, “We looked up and saw that her car was quickly rolling backwards.”

The woman attempted to get back in the car and was seriously injured in the process. Kathy took off after the car hoping she could sound a warning to any other neighbors in the area. Thankfully the car stopped on a curb and no one else was injured but Kathy was exhausted. A neighbor had called 911 so Mercy Flights was on the way. Little did Kathy know that she would also be in need of help!

The neighbor had asked Kathy to get her purse out of the car and on the way back Kathy passed out. When the Mercy Flight team arrived they had to care for two people. Kathy was so impressed by how attentively they listened and how comforting and reassuring they were. She says, “Even though my veins are hard to find, they had my IV set-up in no time. They were such professional young people. If I could have I would’ve given them all hugs.” Kathy said the service was so marvelous that she and her husband decided to become lifetime members.
